How to get to the Island of Iona & MITTS

No Cars are permitted on Iona without a valid permit (only issued under special circumstances). However, bicycles can be rented on the island.

You will first need to make your way to Mull using either of the following routes. Both routes are serviced by Caledonian MacBrayne.
    1. Oban to Craignure (Travel time approx 40 mins)
    2. Lochalan to Fishnish (Travel time approx 15 mins)

Vehicle and passenger reservations can be made at www.calmac.co.uk (opens in a new window), via email or should you wish to speak with a real person then phone +44 (0)8705 650000

By Car
On leaving the ferry at Craignure turn left at the end of the jetty and follow the signs to Fionnphort. (approx 40 miles). The road is single track with passing places, please allow plenty of time.

On leaving the ferry at Fishnish turn left at the main road (towards Craignure approx 4 miles) then follow the signs to Fionnphort (approx 45 miles).

By Bus
Once at Craignure you can get the bus to Fionnphort from the ferry terminal (Travel time approx 1 hour 20 minutes)

On Reaching Fionnphort by bus/car there is one final ferry journey to the Isle of Iona (approx 10 mins travel time).

All cars should be left in the car parking areas at Fionnphort unless you have a valid permit to use your vehicle on Iona

On arriving at Iona, turn left and follow the road to the South. Tigh na Tobrach is on the brow of the first rise in the road after it turns to the West, approximately three quarters of a mile from the jetty.
